The original of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, called Ostrobraska, is located on the old gate of Vilnius (the Sharp Brama), from which it took its name. There are several versions of its appearance. It is assumed that for the first time this image appeared during the reign of the Orthodox Lithuanian Grand Duke Olgerd. At that time, many of the Lithuanian nobility still adhered to pagan beliefs. This image, perhaps, was a gift of the Byzantine patriarch. There is a theory of later occurrence. In particular, a number of researchers refer it to the period of 16-17 centuries and attribute it to the brush of an unknown Italian master.
