Handmade Icons

On our website you can order icons. Our painters have made for you any handmade icon according to your idea (from 1755 USD). It may be wedding icons, measure, icon of Christ, the Virgin, the saints, Guardian Angel.

It can be completely original works, or you can give us your favorite pattern, for example ancient icon. On its basis the painters can repeat the original and make your own image.

Our painters paint the icons in the centuries-old tradition of Byzantine icon painting. Handmade Icon is  made with thought and with prayer about of the person to whom it will be owned. That’s why, along with the icon, God's grace and heart peace come to the man. Such an icon can be a family heirloom that will be passed from generation to generation.

There is even a special tradition of family icons when all the saints whose names are members in this family are displayed on a single board. At the center of those icon is painted Guardian Angel of the family, and over Angel  are placed  the images of Christ and the Virgin Mary. There is also tradition to picture the holy family  patrons on the raised flat border of the icon addressed in prayer to the central image. Family icon can be  good gift for the wedding or wedding anniversary.

Each icon is painted on specially prepared linden board with oak splines. For strengthen on the front side of the board painters stick canvas and apply gesso (natural glue with chalk) . Icons are made in  technique of yolk tempera, what is one of the most ancient techniques of painting.

On customer's request, the background of the icon may be covered with gold leaf (white, yellow), silver, brass leaf (metals alloy, imitating gold), or be made of tempera paint. Also, the gold may covered only halos. Relief ornament (thread, or by building gesso) can be applied to decorate the square of gilding.

Lime board can be of different types: with or without cut-back centre portion, arched.
