The holy virgin Pelagia lived in the town of Tarsus during the reign of the persecutor of Christians under the emperor Diocletian (284-305). She was the daughter of noble pagans, close to the imperial court, but secretly professed faith in Christ. For their faith was persecuted and later executed, but remained faithful to Christ until the end.
