Such reliefs which decorated the printed rings were widespread in Byzantium and Ancient Rus. In Russia they were called "Zhukovin". As a rule, they belonged to the princely family men. Therefore, most often on the rings there were holy warriors depicted: Theodore, Theodore Tyron and St. George, whose names were common in the princely families.
Here is the Great Martyr. George hitting the snake on the tavern is depicted. There is alsoa prayerful appeal to the holy Slavonic. The wearer of the ring may pray asking God to protect him "St. George, the Lord of all the moths be saved me."
