During the persecution of Christians, John the Warrior served in the army of the Roman emperor Julian the Apostate (361-363) and was forced to participate in the persecution. Nevertheless, he assisted the Christians, warning about the next raid or, facilitating escapes, visiting fellow believers imprisoned in dungeons. Saint John was merciful not only to Christians, but also to all those in distress and in need of participation: he visited the sick, comforted the mourners. Having learned about the support that John the Warrior provided to Christians, the emperor ordered him to be imprisoned, where the martyr stayed awaiting execution. But in 363 the emperor died and John the Warrior was released from custody.
The saint died at a ripe old age. According to legend, he indicated the place of his burial, appearing to a pious woman, after which the relics of the saint were transferred to the church of the apostle in Constantinople. The relics of John the Warrior are considered miraculous. The suffering and grieving ask the saint for intercession and consolation.
On the reverse side is the image of an icon with a Guardian Angel. Each person is given by God at Baptism his own Angel. He accompanies him all his life until his death, and after death he accompanies his soul through heavenly ordeals. Orthodox people believe in the help of the Guardian Angel and are afraid to upset him with their sins. The Guardian Angel constantly prays for a person, protects him from demons and instructs him in good charitable deeds. Often he tells how a person should act in a difficult situation.
