Venerable Amphilochius of Pochaev during his lifetime had extraordinary abilities for healing. As a boy, he began to help his father take care of the people with diseases and studied medicine. As a young man, he was drafted into the royal army, where he was wounded and taken prisoner for 3 years. After escaping he returned to his hometown, took monastic vows with the name Joseph and began to deal with the treatment of patients, was known as a good chiropractor. During the war he helped Ukrainian soldiers, thereby putting himself in danger and was forced to go to serve in the Lavra. Patients from all over Galichina, Bukovina and Volyn were sent to the Lavra. Father Joseph healed incurable cripples, the blind, helped with mental illness.
Father Joseph fought to the last when the authorities tried to close the Trinity Cathedral, for which he was forcibly imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital. After release he returns to Ilovitsa and during a serious illness he receives a schema with the name Amphilochius. After his recovery, Father Amphilochius continues to receive people who come to him from all over Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Central Asia and the Far East. After schema-abbot Amphilochius death he was solemnly canonized as the Venerable Amphilochius of Pochaev.
