St. Mary Magdalene was born in Magdala, Palestine, near Capernaum. She received redemption from demonical possession by seven demons from Christ the Savior. She accepted Christ and followed Him. The Gospels say that she, together with the Virgin Mary was present at the crucifixion of Christ, His burial, and at the third day, along with the other women myrrh-bearers, came to the tomb of Jesus and found it empty. It was she, who according to the legend was the first one to see resurrected Lord.
Together with the apostles St. Peter and St. Paul Mary Magdalene preached in Italy, and even had conversation with Emperor Tiberius, she told him about Christ and presented him a red egg as a symbol of new life, with the words "Christ is risen!".
From Rome St. Equal to the Apostles Mary Magdalene came to the city of Ephesus, where she helped St. Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian. There she lived to her peaceful death and there she was buried.
St. Equal to the Apostles Mary Magdalene is commemorated on 4 August / 22 July and on the third week after Easter together with the other myrrh bearers.
