Saint Mary Magdalene was born in Palestine within the Magdala near Capernaum. She was possessed by seven demons and received miraculous deliverance from Christ the Redeemer so she believed and followed him. The Gospels say that together with the Virgin Mary she was present at the crucifixion of Christ and watched his burial. On the third day together with other wives-bearers she came to the tomb of Jesus and found it empty. According to legend she was the first one who saw the risen Lord.
Together with the Apostles Peter and Paul, St. Mary Magdalene preached in Italy and even appeared to the Emperor Tiberius, telling about Christ. As a symbol of a new life she presented a red egg with the words "Christ is risen!".
From Rome St. Mary Magdalene came to the city of Ephesus where she helped the holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian. There she lived until her death in the peace and was buried.
The memory day of St. Mary Magdalene is celebrated twice in the third week after the Easter and July 4th. August 22.
