On the front side of the cross is depicted the Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. Above the cross are written the words of the Canon to the holy and life-giving Cross of the Lord: Cross the living creature, you mi fortress, and victory, and shield, and the wall is irretrievable, demons are driven away, and thoughts of redemption, and mind of my preservation. In the center on the back is the image of Archangel Michael. The Archangel of the Heavenly Host leads an implacable war against the forces of evil, protects the heavenly gates and protects the souls of people. On both sides of the Archangel Michael are placed the images of the saints John Chrysostom and Basil the Great. St. John is one of the three universal saints, compilers of the Divine Liturgy. He was famous for his sermons, for which he received the title of Chrysostom. The Holy Archbishop Basil the Great (329-378) is the Universal Teacher and one of the Church Fathers. The saint led a strict, ascetic way of life, possessed supernatural perspicacity and the gift of creating miracles. A well-known theologian, a fighter with heresy, is known as the author of one of the Liturgies of the Orthodox Church and of many prayers. Above is the image of the Mother of God, the Sign, which became famous for many miracles in Novgorod in the 12th century. It is honored as one of the greatest shrines of the Russian land. The hands of the Mother of God, praying in prayer, signify intercession for people before God, a prayer for peace.
