St. Anatoly was born in Alexandria in the second half of the IV century. Having taken holy orders, holy Anatoly was a deacon at Saint Cyril of Alexandria. St. Anatoly remained a deacon at Alexandria and after the death of Saint Cyril († 444). At that time the chair of the Archbishop of Constantinople Dioscorus took. He adhered to the heresy and spread by Eutyches, who asserted that the divine naturn Christ is completely swallowed human. This false teaching undermined the basis of the Church's teaching on salvation and redemption of mankind. Elected Patriarch of Constantinople Saint Anatoly zealously set for the restoration of Orthodox purity. In 450 at the Local Council in Constantinople St Anatoly was condemned in the heresy of Eutyches and Dioscorus.
In 451 with the active participation of Patriarch Anatoly the IV Ecumenical Council of Chalcedon in the city was convened. Fathers of the Council of Chalcedon adopted the dogma of the veneration of the Lord Jesus Christ "perfect in divinity and perfect in humanity, true God and true man, in two natures without confusion, immutable, indivisible, inseparable knowable."
Saint Anatoly died in the year 458. His memory is the 16/3th of July.
