Christian iconography - a special genre of world art, which has its long history, separate rules and traditional subjects. However, most of the believers are known for the images of the Blessed Virgin. Only the miraculous icons of the Blessed Virgin in the world are known over three hundred. In Ukraine, the worship of the Mother of God dates back to the time of the baptism of Rus. In our material, we will examine the seven most revered icons of the Virgin in our country.
1. Iver. This image of the Queen of Heaven is usually dated to the 9th century. The icon was miraculously flowing on the sea to the Iverian (Georgian) monastery in Mount Athos, and was placed at the entrance gate to the monastery, from which he received the second name of the Artist. A characteristic feature of the method is the image of the wound from the impact of an iconoclastic warrior on the cheek of the Virgin. In the XVI century the icon was decorated with a precious rose made by Georgian masters. In the next century, her worship begins in Russia. Lists (copies) of Iverian icons diverge across many monasteries and temples.
2. Ancestor. Also, the Athos icon of the Virgin, written in the XI century. For a long time was in a niche at the refectory in the Dohair monastery. In the seventeenth century the Virgin repented the Trapeznikov Nile for negligent attitude to the image. When he did not listen to the request, he was shocked with blindness. Realizing his guilt, the monk fell into disgust, asking for the Virgin Mary for forgiveness - and was healed. Since then, in a miraculous way, especially diligently praying suffer from eye disease. In the XIX century, many copies of the Scoropiushchyna icon began to spread to our territory.
3. The Virgin of Oranta. The image of the Virgin Oranta (pray) is known to everyone who at least once visited the cathedral of St. Sophia of Kiev. The composition depicts Purely in prayer at full height with the arms extended upwards. In this form, the Virgin Mary painted in the Roman catacombs the first Christians, pointing to the constant prayer support of the Virgin for all humanity.
4. Kiev-Pechersk. The image of the Mother of God of Kyiv-Pechersk presents the Queen of Heaven, who sits on the throne with the future of her prep. Anthony and Theodosius, founders of the monastery (iconographic type of Pananranta). This icon is known from the XI century and has become widespread, especially among pilgrims who crowds flocked to Kiev to worship the shrines of the Lavra. Many of them bought small lists of localized icons of Our Lady in memory. So the Kyiv-Pechersk image unfolded to the furthest corners of our land.
5. Pochaevskaya The history of this image is connected with another shrine of our people - the Pochaev Lavra, the place where the monks appeared the most Precious. The icon was transferred to the abode in the XVI century and since then became famous for many miracles that did not stop, regardless of any external disasters. Not surprisingly, the Pochayiv Icon of the Virgin became one of the most respected in Ukraine and neighboring countries. Lists of this image of Our Lady are in almost every Orthodox church.
6. Kazan This miraculous icon of the Virgin was discovered in the city of Kazan after the most severe fire. The Queen of Heaven appeared a nine-year-old girl and ordered her to look for her image on the outburst. Already during the course of the procession from the icons received two healings of the blind. Soon copies of miraculous image spread throughout the country. The image of the Kazan Mother of God is usually included in the wedding couple of icons, they are blessed parents to marry daughters.
7. Pay attention to humility. One of the most famous in our time miraculous icons of the Virgin, which is located in the Kiev Holy Vvedensky Monastery. The image was written in the XVII century and during persecution persisted among the believers. In 1992, the icon was transferred to the newly opened Vvedensky monastery, and the following year, a miracle was revealed - the image of Our Lady was reflected on the glass of the kiota, which contained the icon. Of those near the icon, there are always plenty of prayers for humility, which, in their faith, receive from the Mother of God healing and help.
