In Orthodox churches, as a rule, you can see many icons. This is primarily an icon of the temple or icon of the festive rank, lying on the analo in the center of the temple and the image of the saints. A separate composition of images is the iconostasis, in which in several rows are placed the icons of the Lord, the Virgin, revered in the church of the saints, apostles and prophets.
Some churches or monasteries can also hold revered icons, to which many people come with the desire to pray before the shrine. Most often, there are icons of the Virgin, shown in some special way, like the icon of the Virgin Prizri for humility in the Kiev Vvedensky Monastery, or known for their history, as the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. But it is important to remember that when we want to perform a prayer before the image in the temple, we must first of all remember God, by the grace of which people receive the grace of the icon.
Before you approach the icon in the temple you need to double-cross yourself with the sign of the cross, join the icon and cross again. All this must be done with reverence and without haste, and if an icon was formed before the icon, then it is necessary to show respect to other believers and not to stay long before the image. If there is a desire to pray - it is better to become near the icon, read a prayer to the saint depicted on it. You can, of course, turn to the Lord with prayer and with your own words.
Usually, if there is a revered shrine in the temple, then on a certain day a separate worship service with an akathist can be performed. Clarify whether such a celebration is performed by a priest or a candle store. Also, the priest can be asked to perform a moleben before a revered way.
Akathist before the icon in the temple can be read by himself. To do this, it is necessary to find in the Akathist the necessary prayers, to stand before the icon and pray. True, it is not worth doing this during the Liturgy, because the Eucharist, which takes place at the Liturgy, is a much more important religious rite. It is best to do this after the end of the Liturgy or to come to the temple a little beforehand before the evening service. You can also ask whether the temple remains open throughout the day and choose a convenient time for yourself to come and pray in the church.
