The martyr Gordius was born at the end of the 3rd century in the city of Caesarea in Cappadocia in a Christian family. In adulthood, he entered the military service and, having shown courage and martial art, was appointed a centurion. During the persecution of Christians in the beginning of the IV century, he left the world and retired to the desert in order to do a good deed for the confession of the name of Christ the Savior. In 320 Gordey spoke openly before the prefect of the city in defense of Christians. He was seized and, after terrible torture, cut off his head.
