The Holy Prince Yuri was the son of Grand Duke Vsevolod, nicknamed Bolshoy Gnezdo. He was distinguished by military valor and piety. On March 4, 1238, the prince fell in battle, defending his native land from the raids of Mongol-Tatar troops Khan Baty. His body was buried by Bishop Cyril in the Rostov Cathedral. Two years after that, it was transferred to the Vladimir Assumption Cathedral with great solemnity. In 1645 the church glorification of the saint took place.
