Chrysanthus and Darius of Rome were husband and wife. Chrysanthus was from Alexandria, he moved with his pagan father to Rome, where he studied at the school of philosophy. During his studies he read the New Testament books and decided to become a Christian. He found a priest who was hiding from persecution, who instructed Chrysanthus in faith, and then baptized, and Chrysanthus began to openly preach Christ. Chrysanth's father, wishing to return him to paganism, married the young man to Daria, the priestess of Athena Pallada, but Chrysanthus converted his wife to Christianity, and they decided to lead a virgin life. The townspeople complained to the authorities that Chrysanthus and Darius were calling for a celibate life and many were able to persuade them to do so. The couple were brought to court, where they were tortured, and then executed.
