St. Ambrose was born in 340 in Northern Italy to wealthy and noble Roman family. St. Ambrose courageously fought against the Arian heresy, which was patronized by the Empress Justina. In memory of the victory over Arianism, he made the hymn, "praise You God" which is still sung at thanksgiving services. The last years of his life, Ambrose spent in constant prayer, calmly and joyfully expecting his death, which occurred in the year 397. St. Ambrose is venerated among the greatest theologians and fathers of the Church.
