The Monk Seraphim of Sarov is one of the most revered saints in the Orthodox Church. He was born in the city of Kursk in 1754 in the family of a wealthy merchant Isidor Moshnin. The boy was named Prokhor.
At the age of 22, he made a pilgrimage to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, where he was blessed by the venerable old man Dosifei, who foretold him the further course of life - monastic. Four years later, the young man entered the monastery of the Sarov desert novice. There began his monastic path.
Many famous people visited St. Father, including Tsar Alexander the First. He went to the Lord Rev. Seraphim on January 2, 1833, during a prayer in his cell. Glorified in the face of saints during the reign of Nicholas II.
