Having lost the infant in the waters of the Dnieper, the parents, who were grief-stricken, furiously prayed to all the Saints, especially Saint Nicholas. Desperate, they decided that they had angered God, for which they received such punishment and began to pray fervently to the Miracle-Worker, asking him for forgiveness and comfort in their trouble. But what was their surprise when the next day their child was found wet, in the choirs of the St. Sophia Cathedral.
Since then, the image of the saint, near whom the baby was found, is called "Nicholas the Wet."
