The icon of St. Leontius depicts a gray-haired man in a bishop's vestment. The ascetic lived in the 11th century and came from a noble old Russian family. Given the book teaching, he achieved great success and was sent to Constantinople to continue his education. Returning to his native land Leontius took tonsure in the Pechersk Lavra, and began to work together with the Rev.. Antony Caves. From the monastery the saint was placed by the bishop in the city of Rostov, where he worked hard to educate the local pagans, from which he died martyr about 1073.
