St. Alexis was born to a wealthy Roman senator Euthymianus at the end of the 4th century, when the persecution of the Christian faith have ceased. His parents were deeply religious people. His condition they helped the poor. Son they instilled from childhood sacrifice and devotion to God.
Alexis took their teachings to heart and the night after her betrothal to a noble bride, he suddenly left her and went to the east to the city of Edessa. Upon arrival, the young man gave the little savings he had remained, and became the last beggar linger. Alex was dressed in rags and ate alms, consuming only bread and water, and spent all night in prayer. For seventeen years have passed.
Also secretly leaving, Alex returned to Rome. He came to his home under the guise of a wanderer. Many years of hardship so changed him that the family did not recognize him as the young man that he was before his feat of foolishness.
The parents put him in a house in a small komorke and ordered his servants to feed it from the master's table. But Alex continued to use only a modest meal and ridicule of servants, he endured with great humility. So we passed seventeen years, and only after the death of St. Alexis of blessed parents and residents of Rome knew who actually lived in their house. At the burial of the man of God occurred multiple healings and miracles. Alexis venerated saints, both Orthodox and Catholic churches.
