The prototype of the miraculous icon is in the monastery of Dohiar on Mount Athos. The icon was painted in the 10th century with the blessing of the founder Dohiar, Rev. Neophytos. In the XVII century a miracle happened. Monk Neil walked near the icon with a burning torch on duty to the refectory. Once the monk heard a voice that told him not to approach the icon with a splinter. The monk thought it was a joke of the fraternity and continued to walk with a splinter. Then he again heard the same voice and went blind. In bitter repentance, the Nile prayed before the icon of the Mother of God, begging for forgiveness and received healing. She ordered Neela to proclaim to the whole brethren: “From now on, this icon of My will be this called, because I will show mercy and fulfillment of petitions to all those who flow to her.”
