The icon of the Mother of God, named "Before Christmas and the Nativity of the Virgin", was brought to the Nikolayev Pecheshsky Monastery of the Moscow Diocese by the Moscow merchant Alexei Grigorevich Mokeev. After the death of Alexis, the icon was brought to the abbot. When he saw that the icon was painted with oil on canvas and not on the inscriptions, he ordered to place it above the front door in the chapel of the Monk Methodius, which was on the road, not far from the monastery. The glorification of the holy icon began in 1827, after Captain Platon Osipovich Shabashev, passing the night past the chapel, saw that the icon of the Blessed Virgin was emanating from an unusual light. At all times he had a vision of the icon in time of difficult circumstances of life.
